Spartanburg Housing Authority Board Selects New CEO
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Spartanburg Housing Authority (SHA) announces the Board of Commissioners’ selection of Shaunté Evans as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Spartanburg Housing Authority. Evans’ tenure as CEO will begin September 23, 2019.
As a recognized professional in the affordable housing industry, Evans brings nearly 20 years of housing and management experience to the position. Evans currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Administrative Operations at the Charlotte North Carolina Housing Authority where she oversees Housing Choice Voucher program operations, Government Affairs and Policy, Public Relations, and Compliance.
Evans played an integral role in assisting the Charlotte Housing Authority with transitioning it’s operations functions following the conversion of its portfolio under HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Program and implementing the Moving to Work (MTW) program.
Prior to joining the Charlotte Housing Authority in 2006, Evans served as the Community Development Corporations Manager for the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the Director of Administration for the Aiken Housing Authority in Aiken, South Carolina.
Evans holds a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina Aiken.
“I would like to thank the Spartanburg Housing Authority (SHA) Board of Commissioners for selecting me as the new CEO. I am excited about this opportunity to work with the Board, staff, residents, stakeholders, and partners to elevate SHA’s presence and impact in the community,” states Evans.
Board Chairman Matthew Myers commented, “The Board of Commissioners and Staff of the Spartanburg Housing Authority are thrilled to have Shaunté lead our organization into the next era for affordable housing. In a time when the need for quality, safe, affordable housing is in the spotlight, Shaunté’s experience at a very progressive housing agency, combined with her personality and her passion for serving the needs of our resident families will no doubt enable SHA to play a key role in the continued economic development of our County as well as upward economic mobility for our residents. We have much work to do and I know Shaunté is up to the challenge. Of course, we would be remiss if we did not thank Reggie Barner for his help in preparing our staff, our board, and our agency for this transition.”
Evans succeeds Reginal B. Barner, Sr., who served as Spartanburg Housing Authority’s Interim Chief Executive Officer during the SHA Board of Commissioners’ executive search.
